Dorothy Montalbano

Dorothy Montalbano, 89, of Rome, passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 in the Rome Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on May 15, 1925 in Bronx, NY, the daughter of Thomas and Vera Niemcyk Helahan. On January 26, 1947, in Our Lady of Mercy Church in Bronx, NY, Dorothy was united in marriage to Frank Montalbano. They shared 58 years together before Frank's passing on January 29, 2005.

She formerly worked at W.T. Grants store and later at Rome Developmental Center, retiring in 1983. She enjoyed dancing with the Happy Hoofers at the Ava Dorfman Senior Center, bowling and bocce. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church.

Dorothy is survived by her beloved family, three daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Jeff Kowalsky of Sauquoit, Noreen and David D'Argenio of Pasadena, CA, and Ginny and Gary Plunkett of Rome; cherished grandchildren and their spouses, Mark and Patsy D'Argenio, James D'Argenio, Garrett and Kate Plunkett, Shannon Plunkett and her boyfriend Jeff Schreiner, Brian Kowalsky and his girlfriend Emily Simchik and Michael and Stephanie Kowalsky; a great grandson Max Kowalsky; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Helen and Jerry Saffioti, Patricia Liscoe and many special friends. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents and a brother-in-law, Dan Liscoe.

Our family would like to extend a special thank you to the ER, the ICU and 2North of Rome Memorial Hospital. We would also like to thank Ishmael, Brittany and Tina for the care and compassion shown to our Mom during this difficult time.

Funeral services will be celebrated on Tuesday afternoon at 12:30 in St. John the Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio as celebrant. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo St.
