Domenica “Minnie” Santoro

Domenica “Minnie” Santoro, 103, of Rome, passed away on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 in the Rome Memorial Hospital.

She was born on May 4, 1911 in Alatri, Italy, a daughter of Angelo and Anatolia Rossi Vinci. On October 14, 1922, at the age of 11, she boarded the ship Guglielmo Peirce to join her parents in Rome.

On May 4, 1929, at the age of 18, she married Nicolas Santoro, a blessed union of 68 years. Mr. Santoro passed away on March 25, 1997 at the age of 92 years. In 1952, her mother Anatolia became ill and passed away. Minnie then took on the maternal role for the care of her five younger brothers and four sisters.

Domenica was employed at Vinci’s Restaurant, Rome Canning Factory, Rome Dress Factory, General Cable Corp and was also a cook for the Rome City School District. Over the years she had always been a very active woman with many interests and hobbies such as cooking, baking, sewing, and visiting with family and friends.

Minnie is survived by her beloved family, a son and daughter-in-law, John and Patricia Santoro of Rome; a son-in-law, Vincent DeAngelis of Rome; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Renee Cariglia, Rochelle Santoro, John Santoro, Jr., Nicole and Michael Sterling, Louis and Barbara DeAngelis and Vanessa Miller; seven great-grandchildren, John N. Santoro, Madison Sterling, Makenzy Sterling, Erik Sliwinski, Rachel DeAngelis, Brittany Miller and Brandy Miller; two sisters, Pauline Cianfrocco and Josephine Nelson, a brother Henry Vinci and a sister-in-law, Louise Vinci.

She was predeceased by a daughter Helen DeAngelis, four brothers, Joseph Vinci, Philip Vinci, Carl Vinci and Chester Vinci; two sisters, Linda Martinelli and Mary Vero; sisters-in-law, Sarah Vinci and Clara Vinci and brothers-in-law, Vincent Martinelli, Thomas Cianfrocco and John Vero.
