W. Joseph Crossman

W. Joseph Crossman, 74, of Rome, passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 in the Rome Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

He was born on December 23, 1939 in Rome the son of Wesley E. and Domenica M. Ricciotti Crossman. He was a graduate of RFA and attended LeMoyne College, Syracuse University and Utica College.

Joe worked for PAR Government Systems, as a radar support scientist at Rome Lab (GAFB), and General Electric, Utica for over 20 years. He taught at MVCC and SUNY/IT as an adjunct science professor and as an instructor and president in the Mohawk Valley Independent Learning in Retirement program. He served as a judge at High School Science Fairs in Rome and at Mohawk Valley Regional Science Fair at Utica College.

He was a past president of the Mohawk Valley Astronomical Society and the Rome Academy of Sciences. His hobbies were photography, ham radio operation and playing the organ.

He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Rosemary Crossman.

Joe attended St. Paul’s Church and served as an usher at the 11:00 Sunday service for over twenty years.

Funeral services will be celebrated on Monday morning, December 22, at 11:00 in St. Paul’s Church for a Mass of Christian Burial with the Rev. Robert Kelly as celebrant, where relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call on Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo St.
