Sophie Tagliaferri, 99, of Rome, passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2014 in the Rome Memorial Hospit
al SNF.
She was born on May 3, 1915 in Rome a daughter of Dominick and Fortuna DelVecchio Colasanti. On September 25, 1937, in St. John the Baptist Church, she married John Tagliaferri who passed away on February 29, 1980.
She had worked at the Oneida County Hospital for 20 years retiring in 1971. She was well known for her cooking and excellent baking. She enjoyed Bingo, Crocheting and Needlepoint.
She was a Senior Regent of the Woman of the Moose. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church.
Sophie is survived by her beloved family, a son and daughter-in-law John and Linda Tagliaferri of OK; seven cherished grandchildren, Valmarie Caporicci, Kristi Hunt, Nedra VanCleef, Jon Tagliaferri, Yvonne Scotto, Mark Tagliaferri and Christina Tagliaferri, 15 great-grandchildren; a sister Domenica VanCourt of Rome; a brother and sister-in-law Anthony and Margaret Colasanti of Rome; several nieces, nephews and cousins, especially Joseph and Patricia Mastrangelo of Rome and Barbara Mastrangelo of Clinton; and two good friends, Mary Hall and Richard Seager. She was predeceased by a daughter Lucille Barrowdale; a son Adoph Tagliaferri; a grandson John Barrowdale; three sisters, Carmella Stooks, Jenny Mastrangelo and Flora Greene; and three brothers, Louis Colasanti, Alfred Colasanti Sr. and John Colasanti.
The family would like to extend a thank you to the staff of 2N and especially the 3E staff of the Rome Memorial Hospital for the wonderful and compassionate care of Sophie.
Funeral services will be celebrated on Thursday morning at 11:00 in St. John the Baptist Church for a Mass of Christian Burial with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio as celebrant. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 at the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo St.
