Agone, Josephine E.

Josephine Elinor Agone, 85, of Rome, passed away at home on September 9, 2014 with her loving family by her side.

She was born on January 10, 1929 in Rome, the only child of Anthony J. and Mary J. Rizzuto DeMario. On August 12, 1950, she married Ralph S. Agone at St. John the Baptist Church. Her beloved husband Ralph passed away on January 28, 2012.

Josephine was a graduate of Rome Free Academy class of 1946 and SUNY at Brockport in 1950 obtaining a degree in Elementary Education. She was also a certified reading specialist. Her teaching career in the Rome Public Schools spanned over 30 years. In addition to serving on her alumni committee, she participated in the fight to save the original RFA.

Josephine is survived by her beloved family; four daughters and sons-in-law; Mary Sue and Alan Turner of VT, Patricia and James Greenan of IN, Barbara and John Connor of NC and Karen and Glenn Watts of Phelps, NY, a son Ralph A. Agone of Rochester, cherished grandchildren; Colette and her spouse Robert Quaglia, Jessica Watts, Erica and her spouse Jon Santmyer, Alison Turner, Katie, Amy and Michael Greenan and Matthew Agone, four great grandchildren; Nathan, Stella Jo and Quinn Quaglia, Annabelle Santmyer and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by an infant son Joseph.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Rome Hospital, St. Luke’s Hospital, the visiting nurses association, Hospice & Palliative Care personnel and Dr. Nicoletta Tallandini for their compassionate care of Josephine.

Josephine often said you would find joy in cooking and in everything you do if you remember to add a generous amount of love.

Funeral services will be celebrated on Saturday morning at 10:00 in St. John the Baptist Church for a Mass of Christian Burial with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio as celebrant where relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery.
