Richard “Rick” Piccola, 58, of Rome, passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at home with his loving family by his side.

He was born on September 8, 1955 in Rome a son of Vincent and Lucy Sticca Piccola. He graduated from RFA, class of 1973. He had worked in the commissary of military bases until his illness.

He had a passion for all kinds of music and was an avid collector of music memorabilia. He had a great love for animals, especially cats and would rescue stray cats.

Rick is survived by his beloved family; his parents Vincent and Lucy of Rome, a brother and sister-in-law; Perry and Debbie Piccola of Rome, a niece and nephew Tracey and Josh Bowers of Rome, and several aunts and cousins.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to Hospice & Palliative Care and the nurses and doctors of the oncology unit of Upstate Medical Center of Syracuse.

Funeral services will be celebrated on Friday at 12:00 noon at St. John the Baptist Church for a Mass of Christian Burial where relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call at the church on Friday from 11:15 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. prior to the Mass.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo St.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Rick’s memory to Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. or to the Rome Humane Society. Envelopes will be available at the church.
