Mastracco, John M.

John M. Mastracco, 88, of Rome, passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2014 in the Rome Memorial Hospital with his loving family by his side.

He was born on January 27, 1926 in Alatri, Italy a son of Frank and Antoinette Tagliaferri Mastracco. On May 31, 1947 in St. John the Baptist Church he married Vincenza “Tillie” Lamascolo, a blessed union of 66 years. He attended Rome Schools.

John proudly served his country as a Sergeant un the US Army during WW II. He was a squad leader of 12 men and served in the European Theater and was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star Medal. He attended many Army reunions. He retired after 35 years as a Captain of the Civil Police at GAFB.

He was a member of the Tappet Twirlers Car Club and enjoyed antique cars, hunting, fishing, and attending car shows and flea markets.

John is survived by his beloved family, his wife Tillie; a daughter, Lorraine Miller of Tuson, AZ; a son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Grace Mastracco of Stella, NC; cherished grandchildren, John Mastracco, Amy Mastracco and Todd Jackson, Allison and Sgt. Chad Donaldson, Ashley Mastracco; great-grandchildren, Alysa, Alana, Jo-Jo-, Kailani and Isabella; a brother and sister-in-law, Louis and Joyce Mastracco of Rome; sisters-in-law, Olga Mastracco, Rosalie Mastracco and Marie Mastracco; brothers-in-law, Steve Lamascola, Pat and Donna Lamascola; nieces, nephews and cousins., He was predeceased by four brothers, Guido, William, Mario and Nello Mastracco.

Funeral services will be celebrated on Wednesday evening at 6:00 at the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo St. with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio officiating. Military services and entombment will be in St. John’s Cemetery in the spring.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bottini Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. prior to the service.
