DeProspero, Nicholas A.

Nicholas Anthony DeProspero, 74, of Rome, beloved father and friend, passed away peacefully at St. Luke’s Medical Center on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 with his family by his side after a long battle with cancer. Nick was born in Rome, where he lived his entire life, on September 7, 1938, the son of John and Ida Norelli DeProspero. He graduated from Rome Free Academy, proudly served with the US Army Military Police, and enjoyed a long and gratifying career at the Rome Air Development Center (RADC), now known as Rome Laboratory, as a computer operator. Following retirement he was employed at K-Mart of Rome in the electronics department and the Turning Stone Casino as a security guard. Nick was a parishioner of St. Peter’s Parish in Rome, a member of the Toccolana Club, an avid gardener and amazing cook, and was a known and loved member of the Rome community. Nick is survived by his beloved son Dr. David M. DeProspero, his nephews Peter and John Leonard, niece Deborah Leonard, cousin James Acchino, an aunt Jean Conti, and numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends. He was predeceased by his parents and a sister Johanna DeProspero Leonard. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the members of St. Luke’s Healthcare Emergency Department, Intermediate Care Unit, and Critical Care Unit where Nick spent his final days. Their dedication and effort to provide Nick with quality care was a heartwarming blessing. We thank God for the gift of his life, his smile, and the blessing of the time we spent with him. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10:30 at St. Peter’s Church for a Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Phillip Hearn as celebrant; where relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery. As per Nick’s request, there will be no calling hours. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo St.
