DeMatteo, Joseph

Joseph DeMatteo, 83, of Rome, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2013 in Upstate Medical Center with his loving family by his side. He was born on October 14, 1929 in Rome a son of Anthony and Valentina Filippini DeMatteo. On May 31, 1951 he married Lucy DeCosmo, a blessed union of 62 years. He was a graduate of RFA and proudly served with the US Air Force after graduation. He had worked as a mason and before his retirement worked at Griffiss Air Force Base. He was an avid golfer. Joe is survived by his beloved family; his wife Lucy, a daughter Mary Theresa DeMatteo-Vitale and her husband Antonio Vitale of Liverpool, three sons and two daughters-in-law, Joseph and Teodora DeMatteo of Liverpool, David DeMatteo of Rome and Gary and Mary DeMatteo of Rome, his cherished grandchildren, Michael and his spouse Sharline DeMatteo, Tara, Jessica, Matthew, Joseph, Nick, Lucia and Cristina DeMatteo and a great granddaughter Sophia DeMatteo, two sisters and a brother-in-law, Josephine and Albert Darcangelo and Sandra Bovi, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward A. and Mary Alice DeMatteo of Rome and Louis P. and Jacqueline DeMatteo of Rome, nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 at St. John the Baptist Church for a Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio as celebrant where relatives and friends are invited to attend. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Utica. As per Joe’s request there will be no calling hours. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo St. Please omit flowers. Contributions may be made in Joe’s Memory to the Welcome Hall Community Center, 413 E.
