Armando Castro
Armando Castro 94 of Rome, passed away on November 21, 2019 in the Rome Memorial Hospital with his loving family by his side after a short illness.
He was born on April 11, 1925 in Rome the son of Edmundo and Amalia Gadea Castro. On August 18, 1947, in St. John the Baptist Church, he married Madeline Casalero, a loving union of 35 years. She passed away on April 2, 1983. On October 14, 1994 he married Constance Passante, a blessed union of 25 years. Instead of graduating from high school at the age of 17, he enlisted into the U.S. Navy. He served during WWII and remained a proud veteran for the rest of his life. In 2015, Armando received his high school diploma with his great-granddaughter and her graduating class. He was the owner of Flying A Service Station and also employed with Revere Copper and Brass for 40 years. He was an avid reader and enjoyed golf, bocce, and was a member of the Toccolana Club, VFW, and American Legion.
Armando is survived by his beloved family, his wife Constance; his children, Rita (Sam) Versace, Florida, Armand Jr. (Bonnie) Castro,, Florida, Molly (Ernie) Castro, Rome, James Castro Virginia; step children, Michelle (Timothy) Kennedy, Vermont, Alana (Daryl) Tardugno, Rome, Annette (Thomas) Giardino, Vermont, Lisa (Robert) Coleman, Syracuse, and Christopher Passante, Pennsylvania. a brother Tito (Maryann) Castro; his three brothers-in-law, John Green, Richard (Kathy) Green, Paul Semo, and a sister-in-law Josephine Castro; a daughter-in-law, Lucille Castro,his cherished 27 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Edmund Castro; three brothers, Edmundo, Raul and John and his sisters, America Newkirk, Gloria Bello and Amelia Semo.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at the Rome Memorial Hospital for their wonderful care and compassion.
Private funeral services will be celebrated on Monday morning for the family. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 Embargo St.
