Vita “Rita” Vescio

Vita “Rita” Vescio, 88, of Rome passed away peacefully on Friday, November 15, 2019 in the Sitrin Health Care Center, New Hartford with her loving family by her side.

She was born on July 3, 1931 in Utica the daughter of Joseph Fremento and Rose Fruci.. On October 11, 1950 in Utica she married Peter L. Vescio who passed away on September 7, 2001. She attended schools in Utica including Proctor High School.

Rita was a waitress and cook at the Plaza Restaurant for 46 years until her retirement. She was an avid bocce player and enjoyed water aerobics, knitting and dancing. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church.

Rita is survived by her beloved family, a daughter Carla Carter of Niskayuna, NY; sons and daughters-in-law, Peter (Maureen) Vescio, Jr. of Rome, Joseph (Dianne) Vescio, of Rome, and Mark (Melissa) Vescio of Sylvan Beach; cherished grandchildren, 9 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Margaret (Frank) Jakubowski of Utica; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Dominick Fruci and Philip Fremento and a son-in-law Lawrence Carter.

The family would like to thank Dr. Brian Chase and the staff at Sitrin.

Funeral services will be celebrated on Friday, November 22nd at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church for a Mass of Christian Burial with the Rev. Abe Esper as celebrant. Private interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call on Friday at the church from 10-11 a.m. prior to the Mass.

In lieu of flowers contributions in Rita’s name may be made to the Humane Society of Rome, P.O. Box 4572, Rome, NY 13442. Envelopes will be available at the Church.
