Vincent A. Coccia

   Vincent A. Coccia, 78, of Rome, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 27, 2016 in the Bethany Gardens.

   He was born on December 31, 1937 in Rome, the son of James A. and Alice Pettinelli Coccia.  On August 2, 1958 in St. John the Baptist Church he married Marie  Quintela.  He was a graduate of RFA class of 1955 and attended Canton College.  He started work with Coccia Bros. Oil Company in 1958 and retired in 1996.

     Vinny was an avid sports enthusiast; he played basketball, football and baseball in school.  He was also very involved in fishing, hunting and playing golf.  He was a lifetime member of the Rome Hunting Club at Tupper Lake, NY.  He was a recipient of the Rome Sports Hall of Fame Lifetime of Excellence Award and his daughter Allison has just been elected to join her father in the Hall of Fame.  He officiated basketball and football for many years.  He was also past president of the Rome Kiwanis Club, in 1971.

   Vinny is survived by his beloved family, his wife of 58 years Marie,  daughters, Mary Jo and K.C. Jones of Bridgeport  and Allison Macri and her fiancée Jeff Brown of Rome; a son Vincent A. Coccia III and his companion Louise Amell of Tupper Lake; cherished grandchildren and their spouses, Anthony and Eurika Coccia, Marie and Nate Augliano, Dustin Jones, Deanna Coccia, Vinny Coccia IV, Mackenzie Jones, Alexa Macri and Michael Macri; great-grandchildren, Gianna, Tahj and Malique.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Lucille and Henry Valentino and Adele and Paul Wilde of Las Vegas, NV and several nieces, nephews and dedicated cousins.  He was predeceased by a brother Donald A. Coccia, Sr.

   The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of Vinny's friends and the staff of Bethany Gardens for their friendship, care and compassion shown to Vinny and his family.

   Funeral services will be celebrated on Friday morning at 11:00 in St. John the Baptist Church for a Mass of Christian Burial with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio as celebrant.  Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery,

   Relatives and friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo St.

   In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Activities Dept. of Bethany Gardens, 801 W. Chestnut Street or the Rome Sports Hall of Fame, 5790 Rome-New London Rd., Rome.  Envelopes will be available at the Church.
